José Berríos will make his first appearance of spring training on Monday as the Toronto Blue Jays welcome the New York Mets to Dunedin, Fla. (1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+).
It will be the first time that Berríos has taken the mound for Toronto since Sept. 24 of last season. He finished 2025 on the injured list, didn't return to the Blue Jays for the post-season and stepped away from the team during the World Series.
Berríos apologized to his Blue Jays teammates for what he called a 'bad decision' upon his arrival at camp this spring and is focused on returning to form in Toronto's rotation.
The 31-year-old ended 2025 with a 4.17 ERA over 166 innings and 31 appearances.
It was the fewest starts and innings that Berríos had thrown in a full season since 2017. He had made exactly 32 starts in six of the previous seven seasons, with the lone exception being the shortened 2020 campaign.
Berríos will be the third Blue Jays starter of spring training. Eric Lauer and Fernando Perez received the first two assignments against the Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox.
Clay Holmes will get the start for the Mets.
