Blue Jays' Kikuchi could start Thursday vs. Tigers

Arash Madani expands on Yusei Kikuchi rejoining the Toronto Blue Jays after being placed on the 15-day injured list with a neck strain and how he could possibly start in the team's weekend series against the Detroit Tigers.

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi can potentially start on Thursday against the Detroit Tigers if everything goes well throwing a side Tuesday, per interim manager John Schneider.

Kikuchi was placed on the 15-day injured list with a neck strain on Jul. 7, and right-hander Max Castillo from triple-A Buffalo was recalled prior to the game against Seattle.

In his last outing against Oakland, Kikuchi (3-5, 5.12 ERA this season) walked five batters and hit two in just 2.1 innings, and has walked 41 batters in 65 innings this year.

The Blue Jays signed Kikuchi to a three-year, $36 million deal in the off-season, but Kikuchi has not made it to the fifth inning in five of his past six starts.
