Things continue to get worse for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was lifted in the fourth inning against the Texas Rangers on Sunday with lower back tightness, the team announced.
The star first baseman was 1-for-2 with a single before departing. He was replaced by Myles Straw, who went into left field, while Josh Smith moved to third and Kazuma Okamoto took over at first base.
Manager John Schneider told reporters post-game that Guerrero felt his back act up earlier in the series when stretching to field a throw at first base.
"Just being careful, really," Schneider added on why Guerrero was removed on Sunday. "He hasn't complained about it much. It was a little tight before the game, so just wanted to be careful, and hopefully he's good for tomorrow."
Guerrero has struggled mightily this season, slashing .262/.335/.359 with a .694 OPS, nine homers and 56 RBIs through 140 games.
His exit comes just hours after the Blue Jays announced ace Dylan Cease will miss his next start with shoulder fatigue.
