Adversity has arrived for the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Jays (63-46) look to snap a four-game losing streak in the series finale against the Baltimore Orioles (50-58) on Wednesday afternoon.
Jose Berrios (7-4) takes the mound against Orioles RHP Dean Kremer (8-7) in what is the fourth game in three days between the two AL East rivals.
Berrios (3.83 ERA) will be tasked with containing an Orioles lineup that has scored 30 runs and homered eight times in the first three games of the series. Baltimore is slugging at .412 this season, good for 10th-best in the majors.
Today’s game concludes a stretch of 14 games in 13 days, with the Jays getting their first day off since the All-Star break, and it may be exactly what the doctor ordered.
George Springer remains out after being hit by a pitch in the series opener, but if feeling better and could avoid the injury list. Reliever Yimi Garcia, who is on the IL with an ankle injury, is still recovering. Andres Gimenez is also out and will be re-evaluated when the Jays return from their road trip on Friday.
Outfielder Joey Loperfido will hit leadoff after injuring his thumb sliding into home on Tuesday. Catcher Ali Sanchez will get the call behind the plate with Alejandro Kirk still dealing with a concussion.
