The Toronto Blue Jays will turn to Jose Berrios as they try to build off Monday's thrilling 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.
In three meetings against the White Sox this season as a member of the Minnesota Twins, Berrios has an 0-2 record with a 4.50 ERA. Despite his struggles this season against Chicago, the 27-year-old is 12-4 with a 2.91 ERA in 20 career games against the White Sox.
Berrios went five innings and gave up three runs against the Washington Nationals in his last start. All three runs came off Juan Soto's three-run home run in the first inning.
Pitching for the White Sox is right-hander Dylan Cease who will be facing the Blue Jays for the first time in his career. In his last start against Oakland Athletics, Cease allowed three earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five batters across six innings.
With George Springer still out of the lineup with a knee sprain, Josh Palacios was called up by the team prior to yesterday's game. Charlie Montoyo said after the game Monday that the 26-year-old could make his first big league start in centre field where he has played 217 games during his minor-league career.
Springer continues to take batting practice after going up against reliever Joakim Soria, who is working his way back from inflammation in his middle finger.
"We've done OK without him before, but we do really well with him in the lineup; that's a fact," Montoyo said on Monday. "The sooner he can get to our lineup, it'll be great. ... So everybody's watching. Everybody's hoping he gets healthy."
The status of leadoff hitter Tim Anderson has been an issue for the White Sox as he continues to stay out with sore legs. Chicago lost Monday's game after Craig Kimbrel threw a wild pitch in the eighth inning.
