The Toronto Blue Jays won't have Lourdes Gurriel Jr. in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates because of left wrist soreness.
The Blue Jays have been trying to maximize the amount of rest Gurriel Jr. can get by having him sit after the team had an off day. The 28-year-old is available to come off the bench if needed as Sportsnet's Shi Davidi reports.
Gurriel Jr. has been one of Toronto's more dependable bats slashing .290/.341/.397 with five home runs and 51 RBI this season.
Teoscar Hernandez will shift over to Gurriel Jr.'s spot in left field while Jackie Bradley Jr. will get the start in right field.
