Trevor Richards is a St. Louis Blues fan so he’s been cheering for the secondary teams he likes during these Stanley Cup Playoffs.
One is still playing, one is not.
“I like watching the Leafs and Florida,” says the Toronto Blue Jays reliever.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, once again losers in seven games to the Boston Bruins, were the only team he picked to win in the first round to not advance. At 7-1, he’s the clear early leader among four other Blue Jays who agreed to pick winners each round.
Ernie Clement is second at 5-3, George Springer and Jordan Romano both went 4-4 while Erik Swanson was 2-6.
The first round was doubly tough on Romano and Swanson, who both watched their favourite teams get eliminated.
Romano grew up a Leafs fan and still has pictures of Mats Sundin up on his childhood bedroom walls, while Swanson has changed allegiances to the Winnipeg Jets from the Minnesota Wild and watched them get bounced in five by the Colorado Avalanche.
They’re both aiming to make up some ground on bullpen-mate Richards with their picks in the second round.
