Alek Manoah's rough season continued on Tuesday as the Toronto Blue Jays' opening-day starter couldn't escape the fifth inning in a game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 2022 All-Star was replaced by Tim Mayza after giving up a run-scoring double to Trea Turner with two out in the fifth, giving the Phillies a 3-1 lead.
Brandon Marsh scored from first on the play — getting on with a walk after Manoah was called for a pitch-clock violation with a full count.
Philadelphia went up 2-1 in the fourth when Nick Castellanos connected on a hanging slider by Manoah for a two-run homer.
Manoah walked four and struck out one on 100 pitches against the Phillies.
It is the third straight start Manoah has pitched no more than five innings and will mark the sixth consecutive start he does not register a win.
Manoah has a 4.83 ERA, well above last year's 2.24 mark.
