Max Scherzer is headed west.
The Toronto Blue Jays starter will make a rehab start for the high-A Vancouver Canadians on Friday, he told Sportsnet's Shi Davidi on Wednesday.
Scherzer will then join the Blue Jays in Seattle on Saturday. His side session on Sunday will determine next steps.
The three-time Cy Young winner has been sidelined with back spasms since June 10.
He recently received a cortisone shot to aid in his recovery, but Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reported Tuesday that he'd likely need "a couple starts" before returning to MLB.
It's been an on-and-off kind of season for the 41-year-old Scherzer, who has made six starts for Toronto, posting a 10.23 ERA with only four strikeouts across 22 innings.
Vancouver's game against Eugene on Friday starts at 1:05 p.m. PT.
