Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Whit Merrifield was pulled from Saturday's Game 2 against the Seattle Mariners after getting hit in the head with a pitch.
Merrifield was struck by an 88.7 m.p.h pitch from Mariners reliever Diego Castillo in the fifth inning. It was Castillo's first pitch of the game after taking over for Paul Sewald, who allowed four earned runs and only recorded two outs in the inning.
Merrifield was clearly shaken by the play and was checked over by trainer Jose Ministral but he did take his base. However, when the Blue Jays came out on defence in the sixth, Raimel Tapia replaced Merrifield in left field.
The Blue Jays, who are facing elimination in the game, jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after two home runs from Teoscar Hernandez and led 8-1 after five innings.
