Blue Jays' Moreno not active for series opener vs. Tigers

Jamie Campbell is joined by Shi Davidi and Arden Zwelling on Blue Jays Central to explain why the Toronto Blue Jays are choosing to wait until Saturday's game against the Detroit Tigers to debut top prospect Gabriel Moreno instead of Friday.

Top prospect Gabriel Moreno will not be activated on Friday when the Toronto Blue Jays open a series against the Detroit Tigers.

The red-hot Alejandro Kirk will be the catcher for Jose Berrios, which also was the case for the right-hander's last start when he struck out a career-high 13 against the Minnesota Twins.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will be the designated hitter with Cavan Biggio at first base.

Moreno, a catcher, is with the Blue Jays in Detroit after opening the season with triple-A Buffalo. He figures to be activated on Saturday or Sunday, Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reports.

Watch the Blue Jays-Tigers game on Sportsnet on Friday at 7:10 p.m. ET / 4:10 p.m. PT.
