Blue Jays open road series vs. Marlins as small underdogs

In this edition of Blue Jays Plays of the Week, the Blue Jays bounce back with wins against the Baltimore Orioles and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. continues his offensive onslaught.

The Toronto Blue Jays will be looking to win three games in a row for the first time since mid-May when they open a two-game series with the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night as slim +100 road underdogs on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Toronto is coming off back-to-back wins to close out a weekend series in Baltimore, but has struggled to produce consistent results during a shaky 30-game stretch that has left the team stalled in fourth place in the AL East standings going into Tuesday night's matchup at loanDepot park.

The Blue Jays have struggled to maintain a winning record while posting wins in just 12 of 30 contests since last winning three games in a row. However, the team has proven to be much more reliable on the road during that stretch, going 9-7 in 16 contests away from their temporary home at Sahlen Field. Toronto has also been impressive in interleague play so far this season, racking up an 11-2 overall record in 13 dates with National League opponents. That was capped by a two-game sweep of the Marlins in Buffalo earlier this month.

Those victories extended Toronto's growing track record of dominance against the Marlins. The Blue Jays have racked up an 11-4 record in 15 clashes with the Marlins since 2009, according to the OddsShark MLB Database, including a 5-3 mark over eight meetings in Miami. However, injuries remain an ongoing concern for Toronto, which remains without George Springer and Danny Jansen. The Blue Jays bullpen has also been hard hit by injuries, which was reflected in their performance during last week's five-game losing streak with relievers giving up 14 of the 24 total earned runs allowed.

That could be good news for the Marlins, who return home for Tuesday's contest set as -120 favourites at sports betting sites. Like the Blue Jays, Miami has battled inconsistency in recent weeks, particularly at the plate. The Marlins were limited to two or fewer runs in each of the four losses during their recent six-game road trip, but also scored 10 or more runs twice while taking two of three from the Chicago Cubs this past weekend.

The Marlins have also steadily rounded into form on home turf since opening the campaign with just three wins in their first 10 outings at loanDepot park. Miami has won 13 of its past 20 home dates, while limiting opponents to four or fewer runs in 16 of those contests. But success against American League opponents has eluded the Marlins, who have gone 2-8 in 10 interleague contests this season, and failed to record consecutive wins during an 8-18 run.
