The Toronto Blue Jays continued to pare their roster on Wednesday with the start of the regular season just a week away.
Toronto optioned catcher Brandon Valenzuela to triple-A Buffalo and reassigned Robert Brooks, Rafael Lantigua, Riley Tirotta, Carlos Mendoza and Josh Rivera to minor-league camp.
Valenzuela, 25, was acquired by the Blue Jays at the 2025 trade deadline in a swap with the San Diego Padres for Will Wagner.
The switch-hitting backstop was selected to Toronto's 40-man roster after the post-season, protecting him from December's Rule 5 Draft. Valenzuela has followed up on that decision by putting together a strong camp with the Blue Jays.
In 11 Grapefruit League games, Valenzuela has an .848 OPS and one home run.
The other five position players are not on Toronto's 40-man roster. Both Lantigua and Mendoza signed minor-league deals with the Blue Jays this off-season that included invites to spring training.
Tirotta, meanwhile, was a consistent presence at triple-A in 2025, smacking 12 home runs in 116 games. He was a 12th-round pick of Toronto in 2021.
Brooks and Rivera were acquired by the Blue Jays organization in 2024.
