The Toronto Blue Jays made a flurry of roster moves Sunday to support their injured position player group and taxed bullpen.
Andrés Giménez was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain, while outfielder Joey Loperfido was recalled from triple-A Buffalo to take his spot on the 26-man roster.
Ryan Burr was also reinstated from the 60-day IL. Lazaro Estrada was optioned back to triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.
Will Robertson, who made his major-league debut with the Blue Jays on June 15 against the Phillies, was designated for assignment to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.
It will be Giménez's second stint on the injured list this season after missing 24 games with a quad strain between May 7 and June 3.
After a prolonged cold stretch, the Venezuelan infielder had just started to heat up, hitting .353 with one home run and nine RBIs over his last 10 games.
Loperfido struggled after joining the Blue Jays in the Yusei Kikuchi trade last season, posting a .197/.236/.343 slash line with two home runs and nine RBIs over 43 games. The left-handed hitting outfielder has nine home runs and 36 RBIs while slashing .278/.354/.422 with the Bisons this season.
The 26-year-old will bat eighth and start in right field against the Los Angeles Angels Sunday.
Estrada was optioned after making a successful major-league debut in relief with the Blue Jays Saturday. The Cuban right-hander allowed one run on two hits over four innings, striking out four and inducing a game-high 10 whiffs.
Burr has not pitched yet this season due to right shoulder inflammation. The righty pitched to a 4.13 ERA over 32.2 innings with the Blue Jays in 2024, striking out 47 batters and walking 12.
Giménez was third Blue Jays regular to face injury trouble in the last three days, with Yimi Garcia going to the 10-day on Saturday due to an ankle injury and Anthony Santander being moved to the 60-day Friday.
Toronto looks to sweep its second consecutive series on Sunday as they take on the Angels for the final contest of a three-game set. Watch the game on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ at 1:30 p.m. ET / 10:30 a.m. PT.
