The Toronto Blue Jays' bullpen churn continues.
Toronto placed reliever Nick Sandlin on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with right elbow inflammation. The 28-year-old got two outs in the Blue Jays' series-opening win on Monday against the Chicago White Sox.
After being acquired as part of the off-season trade that brought Andrés Giménez to Toronto, Sandlin has thrown 16.1 innings for his new team, carrying a 2.20 ERA and 23.2 per cent strikeout rate.
He missed multiple months with a right lat strain and returned to Toronto's bullpen on June 20.
To take Sandlin's spot, the Blue Jays recalled left-handed reliever Justin Bruihl from triple-A Buffalo.
Bruihl last pitched for the Blue Jays on June 3 against the New York Yankees before being shuttled back to the minors. He threw one scoreless inning of relief for Buffalo on Sunday.
The 28-year-old has appeared in four games with Toronto this season, allowing just one earned run while striking out five in 3.1 innings of work.
He signed with the Blue Jays this past off-season on a minor-league deal and has spent most of the year in triple-A. With Buffalo, the six-foot-two southpaw has a 3.56 ERA and two saves in 27 outings.
