The Toronto Blue Jays have suffered another blow to their pitching staff.
José Berríos is being placed on the injured list due to an elbow ailment, manager John Schneider told reporters on Thursday.
The issue is one Berríos has been "dealing with for a while," Schneider said.
Berríos, 31, was recently bumped from the rotation to the bullpen. He made his first relief appearance on Wednesday, coughing up three earned runs on two hits and two walks in two innings.

The move is just the latest hit to a Toronto squad that's in a tailspin, having lost six of its last seven games.
Berríos, who is being placed on the IL for the first time in his career, joins starter Chris Bassitt on the sidelines. The Blue Jays are set for a bullpen game against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday, with Louis Varland taking the ball as an opener.
Meanwhile, right-handed reliever Paxton Schultz is being recalled to take Berríos's spot.
Schultz, 27, holds a 4.38 ERA in 13 appearances with the Blue Jays this season.
