After getting chased in the third inning of his previous outing, Trey Yesavage righted the ship on Wednesday night.
The Toronto Blue Jays' No. 1 pitching prospect spun a gem, striking out eight batters over five scoreless innings while allowing only one hit and one walk.
Yesavage's third start with the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats was his longest yet and a significant improvement over last week's 2.2 inning, four earned-run showing.
The 21-year-old right-hander had an impressive response to his first setback as a professional, surging into second on the minor-league strikeouts leaderboard at 104, three behind Canadian Jonah Tong.
After allowing his lone hit of the ballgame with one out in the first inning, Yesavage recovered by striking out the third and fourth hitters in the Hartford Yard Goats' order. He induced 16 swinging strikes, his highest total since getting the call to double-A.
The East Carolina University product retired the Yard Goats in order in the second, third and fifth, putting him in line for his first win since advancing to the upper minors.
Yesavage was officially promoted to New Hampshire on June 12 after four starts with high-A Vancouver and seven starts with low-A Dunedin.
