Triple-A Buffalo didn't offer the same welcome that Trey Yesavage has become accustomed to over his impressive first season in the pros.
The Toronto Blue Jays' top pitching prospect made his debut with the Bisons on Thursday, stumbling through 1.2 innings of work. He gave up two runs on one hit while allowing four walks and striking out three against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
In a 35-pitch first inning, the 20th-overall pick from 2024 issued three walks and surrendered a hit, including a wild pitch to fall behind 2-0 against the Philadelphia Phillies' top farm club.
One of the walks came on a 3-2 pitch that was overturned to a ball by the automated ball-strike system, bringing home a run instead of recording his first triple-A strikeout.
He recovered to strike out back-to-back hitters and escape the jam.
The 22-year-old returned for the second inning and issued a leadoff walk, but it was erased by a fielder's choice that was nearly turned into a double play. He struck out the next batter but was lifted from the game with 57 pitches, 32 of which were strikes.
George Springer flew out to right field during the top of the first in his first plate appearance since he landed on the seven-day concussion injured list on Aug. 1. He walked in his next plate appearance and scored a run and then doubled and scored in the bottom of the fifth.
The 35-year-old has been sidelined since he was hit in the head by a pitch on July 28 against the Baltimore Orioles.
Yesavage has rapidly climbed through the Blue Jays' system in 2025, posting an impressive 134 strikeouts, 3.01 ERA and 0.93 WHIP over 18 starts in three different levels coming into Thursday.
