Ricky Tiedemann is back in the major leagues.
The 24-year-old left-hander was recalled from triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday and joined the big-league Toronto Blue Jays in Cleveland as Toronto was getting set to begin a key three-game series with the Guardians, the team announced.
Tiedemann, the Blue Jays' No. 11-ranked prospect, made his Major League Baseball debut on Aug. 15 against the New York Yankees. He gave up a run and struck out two in 1.2 innings of work.
After getting his first taste of what life in the majors might be like, he was immediately sent back down to triple-A on Aug. 16.
He joins a Blue Jays team thick in a wild-card race with the Guardians and others. Toronto sits only 1.5 games back of Cleveland for the third and final American League wild-card spot.
Also announced on Tuesday, Sean Keys was called back up from triple-A. Keys is the No. 6-ranked Blue Jays prospect. During a 12-game stint with the Blue Jays, the 23-year-old corner infielder hit .167/.189/.278 with six hits, five RBI and five runs scored.
Left-handed pitcher Josh Mantiply was also activated from the 60-day injured list and infielder Josh Smith was activated from the 10-day injured list.
All of Tiedemann, Keys, Mantiply and Smith will be active for Tuesday's game at 6:30 p.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
Outfielder Daz Cameron was designated for assignment while right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson cleared waivers and elected to enter free agency.
In other Jays injury news, starter Shane Bieber has been diligently keeping up with his strength training while on the IL, Sportsnet's Hazel Mae reported Tuesday.
Bieber hopes to play catch either Wednesday or Thursday.
He was placed on the injured list last week after an MRI later revealed inflammation in the teres major, the muscle that connects the shoulder blade to the upper arm.
According to manager John Schneider, the Blue Jays are hopeful this injury doesn’t have to end Bieber’s season.
