The Toronto Blue Jays are making a change in their bullpen ahead of a weekend series against the Seattle Mariners.
Right-hander CJ Van Eyk has been recalled from triple-A Buffalo and will be active for Friday's game, while fellow right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson has been designated for assignment, the Blue Jays announced.
Van Eyk, a second-round pick by the Blue Jays in 2020, has pitched in three games for Toronto this year, allowing three earned runs in 11.2 innings.
In Buffalo, Van Eyk was 6-3 with a 3.79 ERA over 21 appearances (15 starts). He was selected by the Blue Jays with the 42nd overall pick of the 2020 draft.
Woods Richardson, reacquired by the Blue Jays in a June trade with the Minnesota Twins, had a 3.93 ERA in eight games (18.1 innings) for Toronto this year.
The 25-year-old right-hander was the Blue Jays' No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline when he was included in the trade package sent to the Twins for José Berríos in 2021.
Woods Richardson was shelled for six earned runs in one inning of relief in a 13-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Thursday.
In 20 games (10 starts) with the Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins this season, Woods Richardson was 2-7 with a 6.68 ERA.
