The Toronto Blue Jays are getting some reinforcements in the bullpen and the outfield.
Right-handed reliever Nick Sandlin and outfielder Nathan Lukes have been reinstated from the injured list and will be active for Friday's game against the White Sox, the team announced.
Sandlin last pitched on April 19, as he was dealing with a lat strain. The 28-year-old was acquired in the off-season from Cleveland and got off to a strong start in Toronto before his injury.
Over eight innings, Sandlin posted a 2.25 ERA while striking out 10 batters and recording one save.
Lukes, 28, owns a .268 batting average with four home runs and 21 RBIs. He's already surpassed his previous career-best of 29 games played with 49 so far this season.
To make room for Sandlin and Lukes, the Blue Jays optioned outfielder Will Robertson and left-handed pitcher Justin Bruihl to triple-A Buffalo.
Robertson, 27, made his MLB debut on June 15. He played in three games, recording one hit.
Bruihl, 27, tossed 2.2 innings for Toronto and didn't allow a run while striking out four.
Meanwhile, pitcher Max Scherzer (thumb) is progressing as planned, per Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith.
Nicholson-Smith added that Scherzer has a scheduled bullpen session tomorrow, and it appears likely that he will return to the Blue Jays rotation at some point next week.
