The Toronto Blue Jays have released veteran infielder Breyvic Valera and tendered contracts to the team's remaining unsigned players.
In addition to releasing Valera, right-hander Shaun Anderson has cleared waivers and been assigned to triple-A Buffalo.
The moves open two spots on the Blue Jays' 40-man roster, which will be filled shortly once contract agreements with Kevin Gausman and Yimi Garcia are finalized.
Valera, who turns 30 in January, appeared in 39 games for the Blue Jays in 2021, playing mostly at third base but also a little bit at second. In 97 plate appearances last season he hit .253/.313/.356 with one home run and six doubles.
The Blue Jays have 10 players who are arbitration-eligible this winter. According to MLB Trade Rumours, this is how much those players can expect to earn in 2022:

• Ross Stripling, RHP – $4.4 million

• Tim Mayza, LHP – $1.2 million
• Trevor Richards, RHP – $1.1 million
• Trent Thornton, RHP – $900,000
• Ryan Borucki, LHP – $800,000
