Blue Jays' Hernandez considered day-to-day with left foot contusion

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider talks to the media about Teoscar Hernandez after he was removed from the game against the Los Angeles Angels due to a left foot contusion he received from fouling a pitch off his foot.

The Toronto Blue Jays removed outfielder Teoscar Hernandez from Friday's game against the Los Angeles Angels with a left foot contusion. He's considered day-to-day and will be reassessed before Saturday's game, according to Blue Jays manager John Schneider, who said the team was being careful with Hernandez's injury by taking him out.

Hernandez fouled a ball off his foot in the first inning before striking out. He then took the field in the second but struggled to chase down a two-run triple from Angels batter Shohei Ohtani, who put Los Angeles up 5-0.

Hernandez and Schneider spoke in the dugout during the bottom of the second and Raimel Tapia entered the game as a defensive replacement in the top of the third.

The 29-year-old recently underwent X-rays after fouling a ball off his left foot last week against the New York Yankees.

In 99 games before entering Friday's contest, Hernandez is slashing .261/.312/.473 to go with 18 home runs.

The Blue Jays ultimately fell 12-0 on Friday, and take on the Angels again Saturday at 3:07 on Sportsnet.
