A pair of Toronto Blue Jays continued to make progress towards a major-league return on Saturday afternoon.
Both outfielder Jesús Sánchez and reliever Yimi García played for the class-A Dunedin Blue Jays in the first half of a doubleheader against the Bradenton Marauders.
Sánchez started in left field, played five innings defensively and made three trips to the plate in a game that ended as a 7-5 Dunedin loss.
The 28-year-old went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in the game. He worked his free pass in the first inning before striking out in the third and grounding out to second in the sixth.
Saturday marked Sánchez's second rehab game after he went 1-for-3 for the Florida Complex League Blue Jays on Thursday.
Sánchez has been on the injured list since June 27 after exiting a loss to the Texas Rangers a day prior with a right ankle sprain. Up to that point, the seven-year MLB veteran was slashing .274/.316/.437 with seven homers in 73 games for Toronto.
García, meanwhile, was returning to game action for the first time since June 18, when his previous rehab assignment was paused.
The 35-year-old threw a scoreless inning on Saturday, striking out one batter while tossing 14 pitches. García threw seven sweepers, six fastballs and one changeup. He averaged 92.9 m.p.h. with his heater in the outing.
García continues to work his way back to the Blue Jays after season-ending elbow surgery cut his campaign short. Over eight previous rehab games this year, the right-hander had a 10.80 ERA and seven strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work.
