Max Scherzer took the mound for the first time since re-signing with the Toronto Blue Jays and came out of it looking sharp.
The veteran righty went four innings against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday in his spring training debut and gave up zero runs or hits with one strike and a walk in that span.
Scherzer's fastball averaged 94.0 m.p.h. and topped out at 95.8 m.p.h. His lone strikeout of the outing came against Brandon Marsh, fanning the Phillies outfielder with an 85.6 m.p.h. changeup on a 2-3 count.
The 41-year-old and three-time Cy Young winner first joined the Blue Jays via free agency ahead of last season and then opted to return to the franchise for a second stint, agreeing to a one-year, $3-million deal.
Scherzer made 17 appearances for Toronto in 2025 and held a 5.19 ERA with 82 strikeouts, 23 walks and 87 hits allowed. He also made three starts in the post-season as part of the Blue Jays run to the World Series.
