The Toronto Blue Jays confirmed Friday that the team has sent outfield prospect Griffin Conine to the Miami Marlins as the player to be named later in the Jonathan Villar trade.

Conine's involvement in the deal was first reported when the trade was made ahead of the MLB deadline on Aug. 31, but hadn't been confirmed by either team until Friday.

The 23-year-old Conine, the son of former Marlin Jeff Conine, hit .283/.371/.576 with 22 home runs at low-A for the Blue Jays in 2019. He was selected by Toronto in the second round of the 2018 draft.

In 13 games with the Blue Jays since the trade, Villar is slashing .222/.314/.244 with 10 hits and two RBI in 45 plate appearances. The 29-year-old is an unrestricted free agent after the 2020 season.
