The Toronto Blue Jays brought their power stroke to the ALDS.
In the midst of their second straight offensive explosion against the New York Yankees, Toronto is entering historic territory.
Daulton Varsho's sixth-inning home run — his second of Game 2 — was the Blue Jays' fifth big fly of the game, setting a new franchise record in a single post-season contest.
Along with Varsho's two dingers, Ernie Clement, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer each put a ball into the Rogers Centre bleachers.
Guerrero's grand slam also carried some historical significance, as it was the first slam from a Blue Jays hitter in the post-season.
Springer moved his way up the career playoff leaderboards with his 20th career post-season homer, sliding into a tie with Derek Jeter for fifth all-time.
Varsho's second blast lifted Toronto to a 13-2 lead, meaning that the Blue Jays had scored 23 runs between the first two games of the series. According to The Athletic's Chris Kirschner, it is the most runs for any team through two playoff games.
The Blue Jays broke out to their big lead over New York, chasing Yankees ace Max Fried in the fourth inning. Toronto piled on eight hits and seven runs against Fried, whose three innings of work were tied for his shortest start of the season.
