Amidst a wave of bad pitching news, things might be looking up for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Shane Bieber is set to throw a side session Tuesday, manager John Schneider told reporters Monday.
The veteran right-hander hasn't pitched since Aug. 21 due to a shoulder injury.
The Blue Jays, in the middle of a dogfight for the last wild-card spot, would, ideally want Bieber ready in time for a potential wild-card series, slated to begin on Sept. 29.
In other injured pitcher news, Trey Yesavage will throw three innings with a target of about 40-45 pitches for triple-A Buffalo Tuesday, Schneider said.
Injured slugger Anthony Santander is also scheduled to play Tuesday for the Bisons.
The Blue Jays open a three-game series with the Detroit Tigers in Toronto beginning Monday (6:30 p.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+).
Toronto is just one game back of the Cleveland Guardians for the third and final American League wild-card spot.
