The Toronto Blue Jays are adding a veteran starter to the mix as the team battles early-season injuries in its rotation.
Left-hander Patrick Corbin, 36, has signed a one-year, $1-million deal with the Blue Jays, the club announced Friday.
Corbin has been optioned to single-A Dunedin.
Corbin had a 4.40 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 31 appearances (30 starts) over 155.1 innings with the Texas Rangers last year.
Corbin is one of four MLB pitchers to make 30-plus starts in each of the last five seasons, along with current Blue Jays Kevin Gausman, Dylan Cease and Jose Berriors.
Since 2017, Corbin leads all MLB pitchers in starts (255), while ranking third in innings pitched (1,491.2).
Corbin is a two-time all-star (2013 and '18 with the Arizona Diamondbacks) and won a World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019.
Berrios, Shane Bieber and Trey Yesavage currently are working back from injuries for the Blue Jays.
Toronto is starting reliever Mason Fluharty for Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox after Eric Lauer was pushed back a day because of an illness.
