The Toronto Blue Jays have signed right-handed reliever Carl Edwards Jr. to a minor-league contract, the team announced Friday.

Edwards Jr. has been assigned to triple-A Buffalo and is listed as active for the Bisons' upcoming game against the Rochester Red Wings in Trenton, N.J.

The 29-year-old has 200 major-league games under his belt, most of them with the Chicago Cubs. A 2016 World Series champion, Edwards Jr. started the 2021 season with the Atlanta Braves, but entered free agency on Monday after being designated for assignment.

The reliever has a career 3.68 ERA in 181 major-league innings pitched.
