The Toronto Blue Jays will turn to Spencer Arrighetti as they look to complete a series sweep Sunday against the Kansas City Royals.
The Blue Jays named the right-hander as their opener on Saturday night after narrowly eking out a victory that put them over .500 for the first time since April 3 and in possession of the third American League wild-card spot.
The 26-year-old last took to the mound Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians, tossing 3.2 innings with two earned runs and two strikeouts. Spencer Miles opened that game, with Arrighetti following in a bulk role.
Since being acquired by the Blue Jays at the trade deadline in exchange for Daulton Varsho, Arrighetti owns a 6.55 ERA over 11 innings with 10 strikeouts and five walks.
The Blue Jays hold the final wild-card spot by virtue of a tiebreaker over the Guardians. Both teams own identical 72-71 records.
