The Toronto Blue Jays were without one of their biggest bats for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles, but there is positive news about George Springer.
After taking a pitch to the head in the ninth inning of Monday's game in Baltimore, Springer was absent from the starting lineup for both of Tuesday's games.
Following Game 1, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Springer is "doing a little bit better" and added it was "so far, so good" in terms of concussion protocols.
Schneider provided another update after Game 2, saying Springer continues to progress and that both he and the team remain hopeful he can avoid a stint on the injured list.
Springer was hit in the head by a Kade Strowd fastball and was forced to leave Monday's game.
The Blue Jays slugger was down for a few minutes before walking gingerly to the clubhouse with some help.
Schneider told reporters post-game that Springer underwent testing with trainers. He said the pitch hit the 35-year-old in the shoulder and then the helmet.
Springer went 1-for-3 Monday night, with a walk and a strikeout. He's hitting .293 on the season and leads the Blue Jays with 18 home runs.
