Buck Martinez is being immortalized by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Martinez will be inducted into the new Hall of Excellence at Rogers Centre on Aug. 29, the team announced on Thursday.
The legendary manager and broadcaster retired on Feb. 6 after nearly 40 years with the team.
"Buck has been one of the defining voices of the Blue Jays, and his passion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to this organization embody everything the Hall of Excellence represents," Blue Jays president and CEO Mark Shapiro said in a statement. "Honouring Buck’s legacy in our 50th season is a privilege and a moment that reflects the profound connection he has built with fans across Canada.”
Martinez first joined the Blue Jays organization in a trade during the 1981 season. He spent six seasons with the club as a catcher before retiring in 1986 after a 17-year MLB career.
One year later, he joined the Blue Jays television broadcast as a colour commentator, beginning the first of two stints in between a role as the team's manager from 2001-2002.
Martinez worked as both a play-by-play announcer and colour commentator throughout his time in the booth. His final call will stand as Game 7 of the 2025 World Series.
The new Hall of Excellence will replace the previous Level of Excellence, which was located on the fascia in the outfield bowl of the ballpark.
All 11 previous members of the Level of Excellence will join the Hall of Excellence, which will be located on the 100 level concourse behind right field.
The Blue Jays said fans would vote on all future inductees.
