Just under a year after making his first professional start in Dunedin, Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Trey Yesavage was back in Florida on Friday to begin his path back to the majors.
Making his first rehab start with Toronto's single-A affiliate, Yesavage (shoulder impingement) posted solid numbers. He gave up one run on one hit (an inside-the-park home run), struck out three and walked one in 2.2 innings against the Bradenton Marauders, a Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate, in Dunedin's season opener.
Thirty of the 44 pitches Yesavage threw were for strikes.
The outing started a 30-day clock for the right-hander to return to the majors, but the Jays aren't sure he'll need that long.
Picked 20th overall in the 2024 draft, Yesavage rocketed through the Blue Jays' minor-league system last year before making a huge impact for Toronto late in the season and in the playoffs. He had a 3.21 ERA in three regular-season starts and a 3.58 ERA in six playoff appearances (five starts).
Yesavage made his initial start with Dunedin on April 8, 2025. He was sent up to high-A Vancouver on May 20.
