Newly acquired Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Anthony Banda will open for Casey Lawrence when the team starts its series against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night.

The Blue Jays acquired Banda in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates last week.

Banda made his Toronto debut on Monday, pitching one inning of scoreless relief against the Oakland A's.

Banda is 1-0 with a 6.10 ERA in 20.2 innings in the majors this year.

Lawrence, a right-hander, has been a starter at triple-A Buffalo for most of the year. He is taking the spot of Kevin Gausman, who took a comebacker off his ankle last Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Lawrence is 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA in 13.2 innings of relief with Toronto this year.
