The Toronto Blue Jays will look to earn a series victory against the Washington Nationals without Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
The team announced that Guerrero will not be in the lineup, with Kazuma Okamoto taking his spot at first base.
Per manager John Schneider, Guerrero is available to pinch-hit if necessary.
"He's doing good," Schneider said pre-game. "He's feeling a little bit better. Little bit sore, but I think available if we need him off the bench. Just trying to take advantage of the off-day tomorrow too, and not have anything worse happen than being a little tight.
"All thing's considered, pretty good news."
The 27-year-old left Tuesday's game against the Nationals with right hamstring tightness.
Guerrero appeared to suffer the injury when running the bases in the top of the third inning.
After hitting a groundball to third base, Guerrero was able to advance to second on a throwing error by Jorbit Vivas. When he rounded first, Guerrero looked to have some discomfort on his face as he made his way to second.
He stayed in the game for the remainder of the inning and also came back out on defence for the bottom of the third. He was replaced by Okamoto at first base in the bottom of the fourth.
Ernie Clement will get the start at third base with Okamoto playing at first, and Davis Schneider will start at second base.
Guerrero was 1-for-2 at the plate before being forced to exit. Schneider said the short turnaround before the afternoon start could factor into the decision.
The injury is another snag in what has been a disappointing season for the 27-year-old slugger.
After a sensational 2025 post-season where he won the ALCS MVP and helped the Blue Jays come within one win of a World Series title, Guerrero failed to carry that momentum over into 2026.
He entered Tuesday's game slashing .264/.344./.365 with just six home runs over 102 games.
