The Toronto Blue Jays' biggest star will not be in the starting lineup for a second game in a row.
First baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will be on the bench Tuesday against the Miami Marlins after suffering a right elbow contusion when he was hit by a pitch on Sunday against the Miami Marlins.
The Blue Jays have listed Guerrero's injury as day-to-day and he was in uniform Monday for a series-opening loss to the Marlins.
Lenyn Sosa will play first for the Blue Jays on Tuesday and bat ninth.
Guerrero was hit on the inside of his right elbow by a 92.1 m.p.h. sinker by Pirates pitcher Mitch Keller and immediately removed himself from the game, walking past manager John Schneider and team trainers to the clubhouse.
The Blue Jays later announced that X-Rays came back negative for a fracture and that Guerrero left the game with a right elbow contusion.
Guerrero is slashing .287/.386/.372 with three homers and 22 RBI this year.
Schneider told reporters on Tuesday that Guerrero hit today and is feeling "a little better" but is "still pretty sore extending."
"We'll see how he he is as the day goes," the manager added.
Nathan Lukes is also out of the starting lineup, but is available to play, Schneider said. Unrelated to the pitch Lukes took off his helmet on Monday, the Blue Jays are trying to avoid over-exerting Lukes, who just returned from a stint on the IL with a hamstring strain.
Watch the Blue Jays-Marlins game at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Sportsnet ONE or Sportsnet+.
