Blue Jays' White to start Saturday against Yankees, Kikuchi moved to bullpen

Toronto Blue Jays' John Schneider says pitcher Yusei Kikuchi has been moved to the pen, also notes that he is very open about the move and wants to contribute any way he can.

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Mitch White will start the team's game against division rival New York Yankees on Saturday while the struggling Yusei Kikuchi will be moved to the bullpen, interim manager John Schneider announced Wednesday.

The decision comes after Kikuchi has racked up two straight losses, both to the Baltimore Orioles.

White, who has started 16 total games in his career, is coming off a solid start against the Minnesota Twins, pitching 4.2 innings and giving up three hits and one earned run in the no decision.

Kikuchi was seen in the bullpen during Wednesday's 6-1 win against the Orioles while White walked with the rest of the Blue Jays' starters following Ross Stripling's pre-game warmup.

Kikuchi has registered a 4-7 record with a 5.25 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 91 strikeouts in 81.2 innings of work during the 2022 season.

White, acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline earlier this month, is 1-3 with a 3.72 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 52 strikeouts in 65.1 innings this year.
