Alek Manoah has a new home.
The Atlanta Braves claimed the starter pitcher off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays, the teams announced on Friday.
Manoah, the 27-year-old righty, spent this season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery and working to return to the big leagues. His final seven starts of the year came with triple-A Buffalo, where he pitched to a 2.97 ERA over 33.1 innings.
After finishing as a Cy Young finalist in 2022 for Toronto, posting a 2.24 ERA over 196.2 innings and earning the club's Game 1 start in the post-season, Manoah hasn't been able to recapture the form that saw him emerge as one of baseball's top young arms.
Drafted by the Blue Jays in the first round in 2019, Manoah's command took a major step back in 2023, and he eventually found himself back in the minor leagues.
Now, former Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos is taking a flier that Manoah can help his Braves next year after pitching woes helped derail their 2025 season.
Also Friday, the Blue Jays shuffled their bullpen, sending down right-hander Paxton Schultz and recalling lefty Justin Bruihl.
Bruihl joins the team as it gets set to face a Tampa Bay Rays team loaded with lefties beginning Friday for the final series of the regular season. The 28-year-old holds a 5.68 ERA in 14 games this season.
Schultz last pitched Aug. 24. He has a 4.38 ERA in 13 appearances on the year.
