The best team in baseball will have to maintain its form without one of its top players.
Superstar outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring, the team announced Wednesday.
In a corresponding move, first baseman Rowdy Tellez was selected to the Braves' major-league roster.
Acuna suffered the injury on Tuesday in the Braves' 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Chicago White Sox.
He pulled up and was limping after trying to beat out a grounder to third baseman Miguel Vargas in the fourth inning. Eli White replaced Acuna.
It is Acuna's second left hamstring injury of the season. He was on the 10-day injured list from May 3-18 with a strained left hamstring also suffered when attempting to run out a grounder.
Braves manager Walt Weiss said this injury does not appear to be as serious as the strained hamstring in May.
“It doesn't seem as bad as the last one,” Weiss said, adding the team considers Acuna's status to be day-to-day. "We've got our fingers crossed, hoping this one is not too bad."
The 28-year-old has had a quiet season by his standards, as he's batting .251 with a .793 OPS and seven home runs in 53 games.
A native of La Guaira, Venezuela, Acuna won NL MVP in 2023, but has dealt with ACL injuries throughout his nine-year career, tearing the ligament in 2021 and 2024.
The Braves have the best record in the majors at 45-22 heading into Wednesday's action.
