The Atlanta Braves are the defending World Series champions and are considered by some good enough to defend that crown. Now their best player will be back in the lineup for the first time in nearly a year, giving them a boost after a slow start to the season.
The team announced Thursday that star outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. has been activated from the injured list and will be in the lineup when Atlanta hosts the Chicago Cubs Thursday night.
Acuna, 24, was on pace for a career year in 2021 when he injured his leg chasing a flyball on July 10. Acuna was carted off the field that day and hasn't appeared in an MLB game since.
In 82 games last season he hit .283/.394/.596 with 24 home runs and 52 RBIs. In six rehab games with triple-A Gwinnett, he had seven hits and three stolen bases.
Alex Dickerson was designated for assignment in a corresponding roster move.
You can watch Acuna's return on SN NOW Thursday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET/ 4:20 p.m. PT.
