A Canadian MLB player is on the move.
The Chicago White Sox have acquired outfielder Tristan Peters from the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the team announced on Thursday.
The 25-year-old from Winkler, Man., made his major-league debut on Aug. 8 for the Rays and ultimately appeared in four games, going hitless in 12 plate appearances.
However, Peters had a strong season at triple-A Durham, hitting for a .266 average and .784 OPS with 15 home runs and 76 RBIs.
In addition to excelling at the plate at the highest level of the minors, Peters has consistently made highlight-reel grabs in centre field with Durham. Meanwhile, the left-handed hitter also brings some extra versatility, having spent time at all three outfield spots in 2025.
This is the third time Peters has been traded after initially being drafted by the Brewers in 2021. First, he was shipped from Milwaukee to San Francisco in exchange for reliever Trevor Rosenthal in 2022, and then from the Giants to Tampa Bay for infielder Brett Wisely later that off-season.
Peters was the 20th Canadian-born player to appear in an MLB game in 2025 after making his big-league debut.
