The Chicago Cubs have added some infield depth.
The Cubs and infielder Jon Berti have agreed to a one-year major league contract, the team announced on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old utility player appeared in 25 games for the New York Yankees last season, posting a .273/.342/.318 slash line with a single home run and six RBIs. He played second base, third base, and left field for the Bronx Bombers in 2024.
The acquisition comes after the Cubs traded for longtime Houston Astro's reliever Ryan Pressly on Sunday.
Berti – a seven year big league veteran – was drafted 559th overall by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2011 draft and spent seven years in the Blue Jays' minor league system before making his MLB debut with the club in 2018.
