'Finally': Baseball world congratulates Judge on record-tying 61st home run

Watch as Aaron Judge crushes his 61st home run of the season, tying Roger Maris' New York Yankees record set back in 1961.

New York Yankees' Aaron Judge etched his name into the history books on Wednesday night, officially tying Roger Maris' American League record for single-season home runs at 61.

After he tied Babe Ruth's 1927 record of 60 home runs back on Sept. 20, Judge went seven straight games without recording another.

But the short drought ended for the Yankees star at Rogers Centre vs. the Toronto Blue Jays, with Judge nailing a 117.4 mph bomb over the left-field fence off a Tim Mayza pitch in the seventh inning.

While the Yankees ultimately took the game 8-3, Toronto fans were sure not to feel too down about it, seeing as they got to witness a piece of baseball history firsthand. And of course, the stadium erupted for Judge at the time of his achievement.

Congratulations for the outfielder quickly poured in over social media as well. Here's a glimpse of the reactions to Aaron Judge's history maker, No. 61.

Among those Blue Jays fans there to witness that piece of history was someone who came oh so close to literally catching it. But not quite...

The historic ball ultimately landed into the Blue Jays' bullpen, where Toronto coach Matt Buschmann gathered the ball.

Buschmann then handed it over to Yankees pitcher Zack Britton in the opposing bullpen to return the ball to Judge.

It's a classy move, no doubt, except his wife might've liked for Buschmann to see what the ball could fetch on the market first.

Also in the crowd were some special people: Aaron Judge's mom and Roger Maris Jr.
