Francisco Lindor will captain Puerto Rico at the 2026 World Baseball Classic, he announced in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
The four time all-star will lead his home country for the second time after being given the same honour in 2023.
The New York Mets shortstop slashed .450/.500/.550 in that event, but Puerto Rico lost to Mexico in the quarterfinals after a huge victory over the Dominican Republic in pool play.
The 2026 edition of the World Baseball Classic is set to get underway on March 5, 2026, and will be hosted in San Juan, Houston, Tokyo and Miami.
Puerto Rico will compete in Pool A with Canada, Cuba, Panama and Colombia and will have home-field advantage with their games taking place in San Juan.
Lindor is off to a slow start in 2025 with one home run and a .631 OPS through 16 games.
New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge was announced as the United States' captain by manager Mark DeRosa on Monday.
