The San Francisco Giants signed veteran reliever Ken Giles to a minor-league contract on Monday.
Giles, 31, was designated for assignment by the Seattle Mariners last week after appearing in five games for the club this season. The right-hander, who signed a two-year deal with the Mariners before the season, elected for free agency after the Mariners' decision.
The former Blue Jay underwent Tommy John surgery after appearing in four games with Toronto in 2020.
Giles did not play last year.
Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reported the Blue Jays were one of the clubs interested in Giles after he went on the market. In 2019 with the Blue Jays, Giles had 23 saves, a 1.87 ERA, 83 strikeouts and only 17 walks in 53 games
In 362 career appearances over eight big league seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros, Blue Jays and Seattle, Giles is 14-18 with 115 saves and a 2.71 ERA along with 484 strikeouts and 114 walks in 355.1 innings of work.
Giles is slated to pitch for the Giants' Rookie-level team on Monday.
