The series opener between the visiting Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets on Friday is expected to start at 8:40 p.m. ET/ 5:40 p.m. PT after a rain delay.
First pitch originally was scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET / 4:10 p.m. PT.
Workers put the tarp out at Citi Field less than hour before scheduled first pitch and fans were advised to stay in the concourse. The tarp was removed at 7:50 p.m. ET.
Chris Bassitt, who played for the Mets last year, is scheduled to start for Toronto. Blue Jays manager John Schneider said before the game Bassitt will fly back to Toronto immediately after the game as his wife is in labour and set to give birth to their second child.
Three-time Cy Young winner Justin Verlander is scheduled to start for New York.
When the game starts, Sportsnet and SN NOW will have the broadcast.
