Outfielder Joey Gallo was placed on the 10-day injured list and infielder Trey Lipscomb was recalled from triple-A Rochester, the Washington Nationals placed announced Wednesday.
Gallo, 30, exited Tuesday’s 5-4 victory over the Tigers in the seventh inning, grabbing at his hamstring after grounding out. He was immediately pulled from the game by manager Dave Martinez and exchanged for Joey Meneses at first base.
The Nationals confirmed Gallo suffered a hamstring injury on Wednesday, his second blow to the area in the last calendar year.
Gallo missed 17 games at the start of the season after spraining his shoulder, adding to the long list of injuries that have heaped the two-time Gold Glove winner’s playing time to a steady decline in recent years.
Gallo’s hot and cold bat this season has played to a middling .164 batting average and .606 OPS, leading the team in strikeouts through his 46 games played this season.
Lipscomb will join the Nationals for Wednesday's game with the Tigers as the team looks to grow its win streak to five games, its longest on the year.
The infielder has suited up for the Nats over three separate stints in 2024, carrying a batting average of .252 and recording 10 stolen bases, swiping the third-most bags of any rookie in the majors this season.
He was selected in the third round of the MLB’s amateur draft in June from the University of Tennessee and was awarded the Minor League Gold Glove Award in 2023 for his play at third base.
