Jackie Robinson, the trailblazing infielder who broke Major League Baseball’s colour barrier in 1947, will appear on the cover of the collector’s editions for MLB The Show 21, Playstation and San Diego Studio announced Wednesday.
In addition to Robinson’s photo appearing on the cover, one dollar from every copy of MLB The Show 21 Collector’s Edition — which includes the Jackie Robinson Edition, the Jackie Robinson Deluxe Edition and the Digital Deluxe Edition — sold in the United States through Dec. 31 will be donated to the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
“The donations will establish the JRF MLB The Show Scholars supported by PlayStation Pathways program. Scholars will receive four-year scholarships and extensive support services, including career guidance and internship placement,” Playsation and San Diego Studio said in a statement. “It’s important for us to write more than just a check. The partnership with JRF will also include mentorship with PlayStation/SDS employees as well as an internship to get real world, on-the-job experience. We couldn’t be more excited to launch this partnership with Jackie’s family and the Jackie Robinson Foundation.”
San Diego Padres superstar Fernando Tatis Jr. will grace the cover of the standard edition of the game. The 2021 season will mark the first time the MLB The Show series will be available on both Playstation and Xbox consoles.
