The Toronto Blue Jays announced that infielder Otto Lopez has been recalled by the team and will be active for Friday's matchup against the New York Yankees, while left-handed pitcher Matt Gage has been optioned to triple-A Buffalo.

Lopez was initially brought onto the Blue Jays' taxi squad to offset Bo Bichette being out of the lineup due to a day-to-day foot concussion.

It will mark Lopez's first appearance for the Blue Jays since his debut with the team on Aug. 17, 2021 against the Washington Nationals when he struck out in his only at-bat.

Gage has made four appearances for the Blue Jays this season with an ERA of 1.80 in five total innings pitched. The team selected his contract from the Buffalo Bisons earlier this month.

Lopez, listed as Toronto's No. 5 prospect, is batting .225 with one homer and 14 RBI in 35 games for Buffalo this season.
